I’ve plundered art books for the painted skies from hundreds of years of the Western Canon, painstakingly piecing these incidental backgrounds to heroic and religious scenes into a continuous ur-sky. While there, I’ve claimed these two radical 15th depictions of David as a figure of liberation. The slightness of these Davids would appear to make their survival over the vastly outsized Goliath an impossibility and yet, enlivened only by conviction, they still stand after the fall of their oppressor, against The Last Sky.
